Overall View of FMS/CIM
Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) is an integrated, computer controlled, automated manufacturing system that covers material handling system, CNC machine tools, inspection storage and retrieval system that can simultaneously process medium sized volumes of variety of parts. The system can be further expanded to computer integrated manufacturing system by addition of conveyor system, co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM), automated guided vehicle (AGV) and assembly automation system.
Academic institutions are keeping pace with manufacturing technology, updating their labs with latest manufacturing technology trends. However, the potential advantage of FMS is accompanied with its drawback, namely technical investment by colleges, universities, technical training institutes, etc. Hence to make FMS a reality for academics and small parts production, MTAB has developed an affordable FMS. |
